009 Outlining Changes For 2016 Using Workflowy

A reoccurring theme running through my mind over the last 8 episodes is that of organization. In the last episode a tool was mentioned called Workflowy  by guest Greg Willits who uses it to help stay focused and to garner his thoughts into a consortium topics for organizing projects, speaking engagements, and more . For the most part this tool helps , “keep you on the rails”, so to speak, by allowing you to simply and easily describe topics, add subordinate structure, and as the name insinuates, helps build a working flow of structure while documenting your thoughts in a hierarchical way.

I started using this tool for this episode to help me to stay focused while delivering my monologue. Where Workflowy really demonstrates its usefulness is in the fact that it cross-platform compatible, at least as I use it between the iPad, iPhone, and PC arenas. Noted they do provide an app for android but I have not download the app on my tablet as of yet.

Where this makes an efficiency impact is in the fact that I can quickly jot down a few bullets of thought while waiting somewhere or as I can reflect during the day allowing me to capture reflection moments on subject I am thinking about as they don’t always occur in one setting but over the course of a few days.  In terms of tech it is like being able send spurts of data at the bit level across to a composite location as opposed to doing one image capture at the end of the day where it concerns documenting my thoughts.

The net effect in my case is when I am ready to begin sculpting the show in my home studio I have a handsome list of thoughts collected over time that would have otherwise been impossible. Granted its not the only way to capture your thoughts but for me the simple minimalist way that it works is not as cumbersome as other solutions I have used. In my thoughts it is simply elegant, useful, and efficient for what I need and it fills that gap nicely.
